Linkedin Tips and Tricks
GUYS I never knew how helpful LinkedIn was until the past year of my life. Like seriously, this tool is amazing for SO many different reasons. If you are super LinkedIn savvy, skip this read, but if not let me BLOW your mind!
Ok, to start off- Job Hunting.
Linkedin is amazing with its “quick apply” feature. When I was laid off, this feature got me so many interviews. You just upload your resume, answer a few questions depending on the job, and boom- you’ve applied! You can keep track of which jobs you’ve applied for, and you can see when someone has viewed your application! It is also SO easy to filter for your requirements: on-site, salary, full/part-time, etc. You can do some quick and easy digging on the company before, or after, you apply as well because you can click right to the company's LinkedIn page from the job posting. If you are wondering where to start in the job search process - this is it!
If you are going to apply for jobs here, you definitely want to have your profile updated. Get a good profile picture and background updating. You can keep it totally professional, or do something that shows a little bit more about what you’re interested in. I have a bright pink blazer on and a pink background with my blog logo, and I LOVE it. I wanted my LinkedIn to represent a bit of who I am, and I like to think my profile is welcoming and friendly just like me! After all, this is the first impression you will make on potential employers.
To keep your profile updated and current, don’t be afraid to post, repost, and comment!
You never know who you might reach this way! Post what interests you, tips and tricks, an article you found fascinating, a problem you are facing, and even post if you’re looking for a job! Linkedin is similar to social media in that you can “reach” a greater audience by doing these things. To stay current and relevant, make sure you update your past experience, as well as your current position.
Connect with everyone!!
I’ll never forget when I was scrolling on LinkedIn with my friend and I connected with his boss. He was shocked!! But why not? If you are interested in their background or know them in any sort of professional setting, they are a great connection. I have also connected with my 3rd Grade teacher, high school teachers, and a couple of old coaches - all of whom know me and my passions and can prove to be valuable resources. Linkedin can be a great way to reconnect with people from your past in a professional setting. So go ahead, reach out to people in your field, at your company, prior teachers, old college friends, and buddies’ bosses! And ESPECIALLY connect with recruiters in your field! These people will be great to have around, if and when, you are ever in the market for a new job. We constantly have hundreds of open positions and are only a message away!
Like any media tool, it’s easy to get lost in all the buttons and applications but there are quick and easy ways to boost your profile and build your Linkedin community!
